Professor Robert Hairstans wins Scotland’s Home of the Year

5 Jun 2026

CeNZ-HighDB would like to congratulate Thematic Working Group 6’s lead Professor Robert Hairstans, and his family, on winning Scotland’s Home of the Year 2026 (BBC Scotland).

‘Homegrown Hoose’ fought off stiff competition from homes across the whole of Scotland, from Shetland to Dumfries and Galloway. The competition was judged by interior designers Anna Campbell-Jones and Banjo Beale, and architect Danny Campbell, who praised the home’s originality, both in creating a lived-in family home, and its commitment to sustainability.

We are delighted to have been able to contribute to a set of educational outputs based on this incredible home, through our Specialist Funds. You can read more about this on our Completed Projects page, under “Transforming Timber – Retrofit”

The full eighth series of Scotland’s Home Of The Year, made by IWC Media (a Banijay UK company) for BBC Scotland, is still available to view on BBC iPlayer.
