The Centre for Net Zero High Density Buildings (CeNZ-HighDB) is led by Professor Sean Smith, based at the University of Edinburgh. The Central Management team operates from the Edinburgh Futures Institute, also located at the University.

Professor Sean Smith

Sean is PI for CeNZ-HighDB, Professor of Future Construction at the School of Engineering and Director of the Centre for Future Infrastructure, Edinburgh Futures Institute, University of Edinburgh (UoE). He leads a number of projects involving inter-disciplinary research teams at UoE.

Over 25 years his research has been utilised by seven different government departments, multiple industry organisations, supported over 350 companies on projects and over £300 billion of UK infrastructure assets have incorporated his technical designs. His foresight analysis on future skills and mass retrofit for housing has been cited by Scottish government strategy and SE Scotland City Region Deal. He chairs the Infrastructure and Environment Group for Scottish Universities via Scottish Partnership in Energy and Engineering Research and Innovation (SPEERI).

He serves on a number of organisations and committees for Net Zero, Climate Change strategies, is an invited member of the UK Clean Growth Network and is programme lead for the MSc Future Infrastructure, Climate Change and Sustainability based at EFI.

Serena Lambley

Serena is an experienced Project Manager with over 15 years expertise in the higher education sector. A business graduate from Edinburgh Napier University and PRINCE2 certified, she brings a solid background in project management and strategic operations to the role.

She has a proven track record of successfully leading large research-driven projects, supporting academic excellence and fostering collaborative environments.

Amy Macpherson

Amy Macpherson serves as the Centre Administrator for the Centre for Net Zero High Density Buildings (CeNZ-HighDB). Since 2018, she has been engaged in research support at the University of Edinburgh, specialising in post-award administration.
